A Proper Blast from the Past

Before craft beer, gastropubs, and gluten-free menus, there was this beauty – The Swan Inn in all its vintage glory. This photograph, likely snapped in the early 1900s, shows the old girl looking just as solid and welcoming as ever. The motorcycle with the sidecar? Probably someone popping in for a pint and a pork pie before zooming off to deliver the post or chase chickens.
That sign, that stonework, those symmetrical windows – timeless class, no filters required. The Swan has always been the heart of Abbotsbury, serving up ales and atmosphere to locals, wanderers, and maybe even the odd ghost (no promises).
Sure, the decor’s had a refresh, and we’ve swapped the coal dust for clean lines and a cheeky menu – but the warmth, welcome, and well-poured pint? Still very much alive.
Pop in, raise a glass, and toast the past. Just don’t try parking your motorbike on the front lawn these days – the chain’s still there, and we’re watching.
