Our Iconic Red Telephone Box – A British Landmark in the Swan Inn Beer Garden

At The Swan Inn in Abbotsbury, we don’t just offer great food and pints – we’ve also got a bit of iconic British heritage tucked away in our beer garden. Say hello to our classic red telephone box, standing proudly among the patio tables and wild birds, adding a splash of history and charm to every visit.
A Little Piece of UK History
The red phone box is one of the most recognisable symbols of British culture – and ours has been lovingly preserved right here on the east side of Abbotsbury, in the garden of a pub that’s been serving since long before texting was a thing.
Originally designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, these iconic boxes were once found on nearly every street corner. Now, they’re a rare sight – and ours is doing its duty keeping tradition alive, one photo at a time.
Why It Belongs at The Swan Inn
Our beer garden is all about atmosphere. With a spacious patio, countryside views, and friendly locals (including the feathered kind), it’s the perfect setting for a drink or meal outdoors. And nestled among it all is this classic red kiosk – a conversation starter, photo-op, and heritage feature all in one.
A Pub Garden with Character
Whether you’re looking for a traditional pub garden in Dorset, a spot with character, or simply a great place to eat near Chesil Beach, The Swan Inn has you covered. And if you’re lucky, you’ll nab a table with a perfect view of the phone box – just don’t try to call anyone, it’s mostly decorative (and it definitely won’t take contactless).
So if you’re after great food, countryside views, and a pint beside a piece of British history – the red phone box in our garden is calling your name (just not literally).
