The Goose’s Inn – Slowing Down Traffic Since… Well, Always
Some days, we wonder if we should change the name to The Goose’s Inn. Not because we’ve lost the plot (well, maybe a bit), but because our local geese seem to think they run the show — especially the road outside.
If you’ve ever tried to drive through Abbotsbury in a hurry, think again. Our feathery traffic wardens have their own schedule, and no one’s going anywhere until they’ve strutted across the road like they own it. Which, to be fair, they probably do.
They slow the cars, they judge your reversing skills, and they don’t move for anyone — not even tractors. Forget 20mph zones… if the geese are out, you’re crawling. And if you’re lucky enough to witness it, just know you’re experiencing local village culture at its finest.
Once you’ve navigated the Goose Gauntlet, pop into The Swan Inn (or Goose HQ, as we’re starting to call it) for a well-earned pint and a chuckle. The geese might run the road, but we’ve got the beer, the food, and the fireplace — so we still win.

Looking for a traditional pub in Abbotsbury with real character? Come for the food, stay for the geese. They’ll probably walk you across the road if you ask nicely.
